Trampled by Turtles return to town for a gig at the WECC on Thursday, August 30th.

Speaking of the WECC, Manafest's gig on June 16th there is cancelled. All refunds can be made at the point of purchase.

And finally, Toronto punk act The Sunday Glow is at Shannon's this Friday.

Evening Headlines: Purity Ring @ The Lo Pub; Devon Sproule @ Aqua Books

Much hyped Canadian-based electronic duo Purity Ring is releasing its debut record, Shrines, on July 24th and have booked a North American tour in support of the album. They’ll be at our friendly neighbourhood Lo Pub on September 13th w/ Headaches.

Speaking of the Lo Pub, Cannon Bros is there on June 13th w/ Shotgun Jimmie.

And indie-rock purveyors Zeus are there on June 2nd.

Also, Dog Day is there on June 18th.

Whosarmy is at the WECC on June 16th w/ Manafest.

Finally, singer-songwriter Devon Sproule is at Aqua Books on June 17th.

Afternoon Headlines: The Strumbellas @ the Park; Bike Valet Runs All Summer

Evening Headlines: Cowboy Junkies @ The WECC; Full Flex Tour

Note: I was away in TO this past weekend catching M83 (digression: if he comes here, you won't be disappointed), so I'm just now catching up on show listings I missed during my four-day hedonistic adventure. There're some good ones. 

First off, seasoned Canadian act Cowboy Junkies drops by the WECC on Monday, June 25th.

Over at the Park Theatre, Chicago post-rock instrument band Russian Circles is there on Monday, June 18th alongside And So I Watch You From Afar and Indian Handicrafts.

Intriguing summer event at Shaw Park (it's where the Goldeyes play): Skrillex, Pretty Lights, Diplo, Grimes, Koan Sound, and Tokimonsta will all be performing on Wednesday, July 18th as part of the Full Flex Express Tour.

The inimitable Tony Bennett is at the Centennial Concert Hall on Wednesday, August 22nd.

Triple bill at the Lo Pub on Saturday, June 9th: Salinas, The Mystics, and Spirit Children.

KD Lang and the Siss Boom Band is at Pantages on Friday, September 14th.

Canadian rock legends Rush is at the MTS Centre on Wednesday, September 26th. Guess there's no Jets pre-season game that night at the Phone Booth.

Double bill at the WECC on Thursday, June 14th: Mishka and Anuhea.

And finally, Detroit Cobras stops by the Pyramid on July 9th.

Courtesy of long time friends-of-the-blog over at the West End Cultural Centre, I've got a pair of tickets to giveaway for the second annual Bands vs. Filmmakers II (featuring a TON of local film 'n' music makin' talent) soiree taking place on March 31st.

From the event page:

"With Winnipeg icon Sylvia Kuzyk as host, five of Winnipeg’s finest independent filmmakers present their film and video work live to accompany electrifying performances by five of Winnipeg’s hottest independent bands. Each artist will work individually with a particular band to create an incredible visual and musical experience. Filmmakers will project their work from the back of the hall which will be simultaneously screened behind each band’s performance."

Afternoon Headlines: GMac's new video; Wintersleep intimate dates; M83 coming to Winnipeg?

Local favourite Greg MacPherson released his first-ever video for "Party at Greg's" (created and hand drawn by Nicholas Friesen) off GMac's latest release Disintegration Blues.

Halifax exports Wintersleep has booked a string of intimate shows this summer including a stop at the Pyramid on Friday, June 8th. Presale tix are currently on sale and the password is drumline.

John Fogerty is performing the albums of CCR live at the MTS Centre on Thursday, September 20th.

And finally, a point of potential concert intrigue: French electronic wizard / one of this blogger's favourite musicians M83 announced tour dates in Edmonton and Calgary and nothing after for over two weeks. Winnipeg date coming? Let us pray.
