Bonnie "Prince" Billy - Live At The Pyramid
Twas a packed house last night at the Pyramid for venerable folkster Bonnie "Prince" Billy.
BPB aka Will Oldham played a marathon two hour set, drawing from most of his catalogue, and while the show started out pretty rough (first three tunes sounded horrible), the rest of the night was pretty awesome. I particularly dug the electrification of his folk songs - the stark intimacy was tuned down in favour of a raw, slightly distorted sound brought to life by the five-piece band.
And the man himself was a likable, confident, and clearly passionate performer.
Oh, and sorry about the angled photos - had a heckuva time snapping pics. Getting these required me to hack through a thick jungle of people and literally step on some toes. People everywhere!

any chance for a set list?
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I can't seem to find one.
ReplyDeleteI'd sure like to know the name of the fantastic duet performed during the encore. It is still resonating.
Help anyone?
It could be "The Girl In Me". BPB have been playing it in their encores for this tour I think.

Sounds like an amazing gig. I would have loved to have been there.
That's the one!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much.
