First off, some great news: The Winnipeg Folk Festival is officially a big, fat five-day affair from now on, so budget your 2010 holidays accordingly. Top on my personal 2010 FF wish list: Kings of Convenience. Hey, it could happen - Iron & Wine came last year!
Hometown heroes The Paperbacks are launching their third full-length LP, Lit From Within, at the West End on January 23rd.
Hot Live Guys are bidding adieu to the music world with a final gig at the Albert on December 23rd. American Flamewhip, Hot Blood Bombers, and Ditchpig also comprise the bill.
On December 20th, Have Yrself A Grumpy Little Christmas with Boats!, The Western States, and True Hussars at the West End.
Attack in Black open for Julie Doiron at the Albert on January 18th.
Monotonix bring their killer live show to the Pyramid on January 16th w/ Lucid.
Down With Webster and Inward Eye play there on January 27th.

Go see Down With Webster, if only to laugh at the sheer inanity of a live show of theirs. Guarantee you won't be able to stay for the whole thing.

According to the folk fest's site, yeah, it'll run from Wednesday the 7th to Sunday the 11th.
Unless some preeminent performer is only available on Monday the 12th...
